Kanti Adhikari

Coming from mid-western’s district, born into a family entrenched in agriculture, it was really hard to take the “Karate” route and to be an “Undisputed Queen” of Siterio Karate in western region for Teju Gurung. Kata Training in Malaysia-1999
It was only her passion and fully devoted soul towards game which helped Nepal to raise its medal tally in 8th SAF Games (1999) by winning a shining Gold Medal held in Kathmandu. Born on 2036-06-15(B.S), married to an army personnel is enjoying her present with her 3 year’s daughter in Birendranagar-7.
She was a subject of laugh when all students were busy in preparation to crack the S.C.L examination; she was practicing so passionately in a small training hall in Surkhet. People of her locality were habitual to see her minimum two times on a new cycle with a bag which was full of water bottles and supporting accessories for her practice. “साईली कता हो बिहान बिहान?” It was a common question by local ladies when Teju used to travel for her practice on new Surkhet-Dailekh road. With a beautiful smile and a regular facial expression she had a straight answer “कबड हल मा ट्रैनिङ गर्न”.
This self motivated and passionately trained player broke the rumors, became the iconic player and a successful housewife by extraordinary support of her family, especially by her sisters. “आज आमा भएको भएे कती खुशी हुनु हुन्थियो होला” says Teju, when she is complimented on her success and sensational sportsmanship.
I never played for bringing medals to my home, I always played for my Surkhet, I always played to convey a message to those selectors who think that good players only come from big cities and they ignore the talent which require the correct guidance and support Teju adds.
It was like a dream when I was awarded by most prestigious award “Suprabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu” by His Majesty Birendra Bir Bikram Shahdev on 2056-09-14 (B.S). I would like to recall that moment when I was waiting to hear my name on that ceremony; Teju smiles and feels excitement as she must felt on same day. Love to be called “Sailee” in her locality; Teju is famous by Sailee Didi among youngsters and her juniors. They love me; they know who I’m that’s why they call me Sailee, I really feel happy and homage environment when I hear this word.
As an average student Teju had few friends in school. Always sitting on the corner of third bench, she scares of English. Taciturn by nature and always ready to make fun with local buddies, Teju points herself as a lucky person when she was awarded by Assistant Trainer-Karate in National Sports Authority, Surkhet wing.
After her retirement, Teju wants to work as a social worker. I will close all alcohol and its products if you elect me as Minister because it’s the main reason behind our backwardness she became little hard while talking about on Alcohol and its effects on society.
She is a god gifted daughter, a responsible mother and a perfect wife. Teju’s success is a message in itself for those people who differentiate between a boy child and girl child, it’s a lesson for those parents who don’t allow their girl child to involve in games and always force them to study or learn what other did, her father Mr. Tham Bahadur Gurung says proudly.
